Benzofuroxan as Electron Acceptor at Photosystem I
نویسندگان
چکیده
The midpoint potential of B F O . the sensitivity of its photoreduction to D C M U . D BM IB and K CN . and the photosystem I activity, suggest that the photoreduction of BFO in the chloroplast is at the primary electron acceptor x of photosystem I, and is irreversible. Rates of electron transport are similar in basal phosphorylating or uncoupled conditions al though electron transport is coupled to photophosphorylation.

Sites of inhibition by disulfiram in thylakoid membranes.
Disulfiram (tetraethylthiuram disulfide), a metal chelator, inhibits photosynthetic electron transport in broken chloroplasts. A major site of inhibition is detected on the electron-acceptor side of photosystem II between Q(A), the first plastoquinone electron-acceptor, and the second plastoquinone electron-acceptor, Q(B). This site of inhibition is shown by a severalfold increase in the half-t...
متن کاملChloramphenicol Mediates Superoxide Production in Photosystem II and Enhances Its Photodamage in Isolated Membrane Particles
Chloramphenicol (CAP) is an inhibitor of protein synthesis, which is frequently used to decouple photodamage and protein synthesis dependent repair of Photosystem II during the process of photoinhibition. It has been reported earlier that CAP is able to mediate superoxide production by transferring electrons from the acceptor side of Photosystem I to oxygen. Here we investigated the interaction...
متن کاملA security network in PSI photoprotection: regulation of photosynthetic control, NPQ and O2 photoreduction by cyclic electron flow
Cyclic electron flow (CEF) around PSI regulates acceptor-side limitations and has multiple functions in the green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Here we draw on recent and historic literature and concentrate on its role in Photosystem I (PSI) photoprotection, outlining causes and consequences of damage to PSI and CEF's role as an avoidance mechanism. We outline two functions of CEF in PSI pho...

Two sites in the photosynthetic electron transport chain of spinach chloroplasts are sensitive to inhibition by the plastoquinone antagonist dibromothymoquinone (2,5-dibromo3-methyl-&isopropyl-p-benzoquinone). This compound imposes maximal inhibition on reactions involving electron transport from water to a terminal acceptor such as ferricyanide at concentrations of about 1 PM. At concentration...
متن کاملInhibition of Photosynthetic Electron Transport by Halogenated 4-Hydroxy-pyridines
Herbicidal halogen substituted 4-hydroxypyridines are inhibitors of photosynthetic electron flow in isolated thylakoid membranes by interfering with the acceptor side of photosystem II. Tetrabromo-4-hydroxypyridine, the most active compound found, has a pl50-value of 7.6 in the inhibition of oxygen evolution in both the reduction of an acceptor of photosystem I and an acceptor of photosystem II...
